A CALL TO ACTION ON SUSTAINABLE URBANISATION

Solving global challenges and delivering the Sustainable Development Goals. requires systems thinking, multi-disciplinary collaboration and collective action. Acknowledging the central role of the built environment, the 2024 CAA Symposium, under the theme of 'Education, Policy and Practice; advancing the Declaration on Sustainable Urbanisation in the Commonwealth.' will provide an important platform to advance this discussion where academia, practitioners and policymakers can come together to reflect on where we are and what more needs to be done to achieve the SDGs, Addressing this multifaceted challenge, three themes have been identified that will form the core of the discussions in this year's symposium:

THEMES

New Frontiers for Architectural Education

Submissions are invited that challenge existing, or propose new approaches to architectural education, policymaking, and practice in response to environmental, ethical, and socio-economic realities in specific contexts.

Design, Sustainability and Urbanism

Submissions are invited that reflect on resource consumption, life-cycle assessment, and the need to reduce CO2 emissions. Papers could present design explorations, simulations and/or innovation at building and urban scale as well as integration of these aspects in architectural education, policymaking and practice.

Scale and Scalability

Submissions are invited that showcase an appreciation of scale and scalability especially as it relates to architectural innovation, technology, data trends and impact. Papers could present recent experiments and interventions as well as integration of these aspects in architectural education, policymaking and practice.
